Psychologists and Effective Parenting
An Invitation from Kerby T. Alvy, Ph.D.
|
Dear Psychology Colleague:
By virtue of our training and our service to communities, we are particularly well-suited to be productive participants in the National Effective Parenting Initiative (NEPI). NEPI is a growing coalition of individuals and organizations who advocate, promote and celebrate effective parenting and parenting education.
Our training as psychologists, and the interests and values that disposed us to pursue careers in psychology, have sensitized us to the importance of children being raised with warmth and dignity. Our backgrounds in abnormal and clinical areas have shown us the negative impacts of children being poorly parented, as nearly all child and adult disorders can be traced back to and/or are maintained by ineffective, uninformed or abusive parenting.
Becoming part of NEPI provides us with additional tools to make us more helpful in our work with parents, children and families. In addition, it places us in the forefront of a grassroots movement to make it the birthright of every child to be raised effectively and humanely by loving and skillful parents who receive the best possible parenting education and support.
Types of Membership Opportunities
I urge you to join me and other psychologists as members and active participants in NEPI. You can do this by becoming a Professional Member. Or, if you run or are part of an organization that serves parents, children or families, your group can become an Affiliated Organization. Or you can participate as a Parent who wants to do the best for your children.
The numerous benefits of membership, and the various responsibilities members assume in working to make effective parenting a child's birthright, are described in the materials and guidance that are provided when you join NEPI. By clicking below on the membership category or categories of your interest, you will learn about the wide range of benefits that are available to help you be as productive as possible and how you can help NEPI become an even more powerful force for good in our society.
Professional Members
Affiliated Organization Members
Parent Members
It is easy to join. You can do it right now while you are online. Click here to go to the NEPI homepage where you will find links to the membership applications. The yearly fees are $25 for Parents, $100 for Professionals, and the yearly membership fee for organizations is determined by the size of your group.
Learn More About NEPI
By visiting the NEPI pages about "Who's Behind It?," you will learn about the many psychologists who have been pivotal in creating NEPI and who serve as Advisory Board members, as well as learning about other professionals who have assumed leadership roles.
By visiting the pages on "What You Can Do" that speak about NEPI's advocacy efforts with government groups, you will learn about the historic White House Briefing that we generated last December to move the federal government to create a multi-faceted effective Parenting Initiative. You may be aware of this event as it was reported in the April edition of the Monitor on Psychology.
We ardently hope that you decide to become part of this important national movement!
Sincerely,
Kerby T. Alvy, Ph.D. NEPI Founder, Member, Board of Advisors
