Educators and Effective Parenting

An Invitation from Kerby T. Alvy, Ph.D.

Dear Education Colleague:

By virtue of your commitment to the education of America's youth, you are particularly well-suited to be productive participants in the National Effective Parenting Initiative (NEPI). NEPI is a growing coalition of individuals and organizations who advocate, promote and celebrate effective parenting and parenting education.

It is common knowledge that children who are raised effectively -- with abundant warmth and acceptance from parents who employ fair and firm disciplinary guidance -- are the most cooperative and achieving students. These effectively parented young people come to school ready and eager to learn. They are cooperative with peers and teachers. They are the most likely to achieve their full potential.

Thus, it is in the best interests of America's schools and preschools -- and in our future as a productive and peaceful nation -- to do everything possible to help more parents to be effective in raising children.

Joining and supporting the National Effective Parenting Initiative is one of the best things you, your school and your district can do in these important regards.

Becoming part of NEPI provides you with additional tools to make you more helpful in your work with parents, children and families. When you also successfully encourage the parents themselves to become members of NEPI, you are having a more direct impact.

In addition, such participation places you, your school and your district in the forefront of a grassroots movement to make it the birthright of every child to be raised effectively and humanely by loving and skillful parents who receive the best possible parenting education and support.

Types of Membership Opportunities
I urge you to join me as a member and active participant in NEPI. You can do this by becoming a Professional Member yourself. Or you and your school or district can become an Affiliated Organization of NEPI. Or you can participate as a Parent or Grandparent who wants to do the best for your children.

You can also alert the parents whose children you serve that they too can become NEPI members, and/or provide Parent Memberships as part of your overall parent involvement undertakings.

The numerous benefits of membership, and the various responsibilities members assume in working to make effective parenting a child's birthright, are described in the materials and guidance that are provided when you join NEPI. By clicking below on the membership category or categories of your interest, you will learn about the wide range of benefits that are available to help you become as productive as possible and how you can help NEPI become an even more powerful force for good in our society.

Learn More About NEPI
By visiting the NEPI pages about "Who's Behind It?," you will learn about the many helping professionals who have been pivotal in creating NEPI and who serve as Advisory Board members.

By visiting the pages on "What You Can Do" that speak about NEPI's advocacy efforts with government groups, you will learn about the historic White House Briefing that we generated last December to move the federal government to create a multi-faceted effective Parenting Initiative.

We ardently hope that you decide to become part of this important national movement!

Sincerely,
